The LumiBee design was split into “segments”, and every segment has a specific function: holding the phone, housing the PCB board, and they can be customized or replaced easily.
We decided to print each segment in a different color to highlight this features. We had yellow and black in house, and once we assembled it, it decided its name by itself! (hence the name, since the alternating yellow and black FFF parts we initially printed looked very much like a Bee body)
In nature, bees play a fundamental part in every aspect of the ecosystem. Bees contribute to complex, interconnected ecosystems that allow a diverse number of different species to co-exist. A tribute to this tiny animal with such an important role in our lives seemed more than right. Moreover this project reflects the bee system itself, involving different players like Makers, 3D printing lovers and fans, as well as different companies to cooperate for the good and, if possible even improved, outcome of the project.
Among our partners are in fact Photocentric providing suitable daylight resins, Zortrax with good machines for the structure construction and 3D Filum, suggesting particular filaments like their new coming non-flammable PlaQ FRVO, perfect for extra safety when embedding electronic components.
